The Borghese Gallery, renowned for centuries as "the sovereign of
all private art collections" is nowadays open to anyone interested in
a more than superficial approach to Rome's treasures and delights
(without the usual crowds and endless waiting in line). Tour the
Gallery, with an expert guide to fully enjoy the masterpieces that
the Borghese Family have amassed in its tasteful summer residence
since 1600. Bernini as a sculptor, Raphael, Caravaggio, Tiziano,
Domenichino, Correggio, Giorgione are just some of the highlights in
an incredible array ranging from ancient Rome up to the Neoclassical
style, the latter epitomized by Canova's famous nude of Paolina
Bonaparte. Continue the tour outdoors, by bus and on foot, through
the delightful Borghese Park, the Pincio Terrace with its breath-taking
view, the panoramic Pincio promenade and the Spanish Steps. The
final point will be Piazza di Spagna, the heart of a paradise for fashion
conscious window-shoppers and selective gourmets. This central point
is easily connected with most of the hotels or at walking distance.
